How to make a matcha latte
Easy step-by-step instructions for making matcha lattes at home. So smooth and creamy. Made with almond milk.
Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 2 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 latte (or 2 small lattes)
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 3/4 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup almond milk or plant-based milk of choice
- 1-2 tsp maple syrup (optional)
In a bowl with a flat bottom, add 1 tsp matcha. Whisk in an O-shape to spread (this will reduce clumping).
Add hot water and whisk together in W-shape as fast, yet gently as you can to combine until smooth and foamy on top (approx. 30s). Transfer matcha into a cup (or two small cups).
Optional to warm/foam almond milk in a milk frother and pour into lattes. (Or simply add hot milk without foaming). Optional to add maple syrup to sweeten. Stir to combine. Sip and enjoy.
I recommend to use a matcha whisk for this recipe, as well as a flat bottom bowl. They are essential for getting a smooth matcha with no clumping. So above for my recommended equipment.
A quality matcha will ensure your matcha is smooth and creamy, and not bitter in taste. In fact, a quality matcha will not require any sweetener as it's delicious as is. See above for my recommendation for quality matcha brand.
I recommend to use homemade almond milk for these matcha lattes as it's ultra smooth and creamy. It also foams very well with a milk frother. Alternatively you can use store-bought, although ability to foam depends on the brand.
