Equipment

  • matcha whisk
  • matcha bowl, or bowl with flat bottom
  • milk frother (optional)

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Add the matcha powder to a small flat-bottomed bowl. Gently swirl the matcha powder across the bottom of the bowl using the matcha whisk (this will reduce clumping).
  • Pour in the hot water and whisk together using the matcha whisk in a W-shape until it’s smooth and foamy. (You can also use an electric hand whisk if you don't have a bamboo whisk). Pour the matcha into a cup.
  • Froth the almond milk using a milk frother or an electric hand whisk, or warm the milk in a small saucepan. Pour the warm milk over the matcha to fill the cup. Optional to add agave to sweeten if desired. (A good quality matcha will not need sweetener as it won't be bitter, see blog post for details). Sip and enjoy!

Notes

I recommend to use a matcha whisk for this recipe, as well as a flat bottom bowl. They are essential for getting a smooth matcha with no clumping. See above for my recommended equipment.
A quality matcha will ensure your matcha is smooth and creamy, and not bitter in taste. In fact, a quality matcha will not require any sweetener as its delicious as is. See above for my recommendation for quality matcha brand.
I recommend to use homemade almond milk for these matcha lattes as it's ultra smooth and creamy. It also foams very well with a milk frother. Alternatively you can use store-bought, although ability to foam depends on the brand.
